A number of years ago, I started a craft business, making candles, soaps, sea glass and paper art, fabric crafts and so on, but over time, soap became my absolute favourite medium, and I began taking formalised training and research into different kinds of soapmaking.
I’ve been a soaper now for about 8 years, exploring the wide range of bathing and soap products on the market. I decided to form a dedicated soapmaking company, Barefoot Bubbles when I moved back to Methven, and created my own dedicated workshop to create in. All of my products are safety assessed and insured, and I am a member of the Guild of Craft Soap and Toiletry Makers. I still dabble in other crafts, including chandlery (Candlemaking), which I am starting to introduce to Barefoot Bubbles, but soaping is always my favourite!
My children took a huge interest in what I was making, and so my range has expanded over the years to include fun bath-time treats like bath jellies, soap sponges and bath bombs, as well as more traditional items like lip balms, bath salts, Cold Process and Glycerine Soaps.
I try to be as ecologically mindful in my business as possible, often using (new and unused) packaging saved from Landfill, recycling postal packaging and using recycled or recyclable packaging as much as I can. A number of other small businesses in my village, and I, share packaging and useable waste amongst each other – one man’s trash is another’s treasure, but it all goes a long way to keeping costs down, and waste to a minimum.
I mainly sell at craft fairs and events, which you can find listed on my Facebook page, and via my online shop at the moment, but I have an increasing number of small, independent shops who are stocking my products, which is amazing!
