PEACE FOR PETS
I'm Ashley, owner, and founder of Buddy & Brooke. I qualified from Glasgow University vet school in 2010 and have practiced as a small animal and emergency vet all over the UK and Australasia ever since.
Caring for older and very sick pets has always been the most challenging and rewarding part of the job for me. There is so much we can do now to make sure that our beloved pets have a long and comfortable life without pain or worry but when that isn't possible, or isn't working anymore, I truly believe that it is a gift to be able to help them pass peacefully.
I have been with so many families over the years as they say goodbye to their precious animals and have always felt that being at home makes everything less stressful for pet and owner.
During the first COVID lockdown in 2020, I had to make the decision to put to sleep my beautiful golden retriever Maddie and was able to do so gently at home. Despite being a vet's dog Maddie didn't love coming into the clinic and I reflected afterwards about what a luxury it was to be able to say goodbye with her relaxed at home, especially at a time when so many people couldn't even be with their pets because of COVID restrictions.
On Mother's Day 2023, it was our lovely Labrador’s time to rest and again I realised how lucky I was to be able to offer him a quiet and peaceful end at home (surrounded by snacks as all Labradors should be) even on a Sunday. My family and I will always be grateful for the time had with our pets and everything they brought to our lives, we miss them dearly but know that we gave them a peaceful sleep when the alternative was stress and discomfort.
Realising how difficult it is for most owners to provide this for their pets as clinics get busier and vets struggle to find time for home visits, Buddy & Brooke was born from a belief that everyone should be able to say goodbye at home if they wish.
