Val's Scottish Tablet Treats
Hi' I'm Val and I make delicious homemade Tablet, made to order so that it's always fresh with nothing extra added!
I started making Tablet as a little girl with my late Mum over the peat stove in the Outer Hebrides in her family home. I still follow my Mum’s traditional Western Isles recipe, which I have shared with my daughter to keep her Gran and my Mums memory close to our hearts.
I still make it the traditional way in small batches with my trusty wooden spoon and add no preservatives. I’m a bit creative and decided to add a little twist to Tablet making whilst keeping the method of producing it traditional. I discovered that instead of just chunky pieces of Tablet, I could make it into all kinds of shapes, I just had to be quick at pouring and patient whilst it cools, it’s all in the timing. The only limit being your imagination.
One of my first shapes was Tablet Ted and this was where my logo was born. From Star Wars to Spiderman, Groot and Grogu (aka Baby Yoda), Billy Connolly’s Big Yin slab to Farm Animals and Tractors. Mum love Bars and Dad hearts, they deserve a wee sweet treat. This has also allowed me to create personalised Corporate Tablet, most recently working with the BINN Group to support them as the main sponsors of the Perthshire Chamber of Commerce STAR Awards. All of my Tablet is produced at home and sold at a number of farmers markets. You can also find my Tablet in stock at my ever increasing number of retail outlets.
I also produce Tablet with a bit extra added, from Peanut Butter to Mint Aero, Chocolate Orange to Malt Whisky, Coconut to Baileys Irish Crème and even some Dairy Free Vegan Tablet. Alongside the tablet I produce some Vanilla Fudge which often raises the following question.... What’s the difference between Tablet and Fudge.
For me, it’s all to do with ingredient quantities. Tablet has more sugar but less butter than fudge. This makes the textures of them different, fudge being softer but both still providing melt in the mouth results.
